How it connects

Start with SSH. Add the Companion when you want.

Over SSH there is nothing to install on the Mac: turn on Remote Login and you can build, test, distribute, and see git.

The Companion is a free menu bar app. It adds live Simulator, previews, and agents, finds your Mac on its own, keeps builds running when you leave the screen, and keeps the Mac from sleeping halfway through. It uses CoreSimulator directly: no Accessibility, no Screen Recording.

Away from home? With Tailscale on both devices, CompilePilot reaches your Mac from any network without exposing it to the internet.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the Companion?

Only for live Simulator, previews, agents, and building with Xcode itself. Building, testing, running, distributing, and git all work over SSH, with nothing to install on the Mac.

Does my code go through any server?

No. Your iPhone talks straight to your Mac: no account, no relay, and your code never passes through a server of ours. If you turn on notifications away from home, a server of ours hands them to Apple encrypted, without being able to read them. An agent you open talks to its own provider, with your account, just as it does on the Mac.

Can I use it away from my local network?

Yes, with Tailscale on the Mac and on your iPhone or iPad, using the Mac’s private IP or MagicDNS name. Tailscale is configured separately, and CompilePilot is not affiliated with Tailscale.

What does the Mac need?

Xcode installed. For the Companion, also Apple silicon and macOS 14 Sonoma or later; previews and building with Xcode need Xcode 26.3 or later. For agents, having them installed on the Mac with your account.

What does it cost?

One simple subscription, with a 3-day trial. Prices, periods, and renewals are handled by Apple through StoreKit and are shown in the app and on the App Store. The Companion is free.
